OVERLAND PARK, Kan., June 15, 2016 – In response to the recent tragic events in Orlando, Apple Pie Painting has coordinated with three area bars to provide a charity fundraising event and the Kick Off Painting Party. The events will take place simultaneously on Saturday, June 18 at five p.m., in advance of the upcoming KC Cares Fundraiser, scheduled for Saturday, June 25. All proceeds from this event will be donated to the KC Cares fundraiser, and will directly assist in helping the victims of the targeted attack last Sunday at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando.
To help the Kansas City LGBT community come together and heal, Apple Pie Painting, a Kansas City-based startup, is donating their services to provide multiple painting parties simultaneously in three different locations, featuring a custom painting, “#OrlandoUnited,” designed specifically for this event. An artist instructor that will be available at each site to walk participants through the recreation of the painting. In addition to creating a handmade memento, the events will also raise funds for the victims of the tragedy; wherein each local bar will compete to see which establishment can raise the most money in the three-hour time frame. The bar raising the most donations will receive a commemorative plaque.
“My wife April and I realized that we can give our services to this cause, and help begin the healing process for the members of the LGBT community, their friends, and family, through the power of art,” said Apple Pie Painting co-founder Joey Kramer. “We donate to many causes throughout the year, but April and I felt there could not be a better purpose for uniting people at this time, helping bring them together, to share in their grief, create lasting memories, and begin to heal this community. Life is short, and spending quality time with those that matter the most is even more meaningful at this moment!”
The participating bars will include Missie B’s, Bistro 303, and Sidekicks Saloon. Space will be limited to 30 seats at each venue, but the public is encouraged to invite friends and family to join them in purchasing a ticket to help support the cause. Tickets will be $30 each, and will go towards the victims’ fund. Additionally, each location will have door prizes for painters and a collection box for additional donations for the victims. A check will be presented in person at the KC Cares Fundraiser next week by business owners Joey and April Kramer.
